To begin this new decade with inspiration, we invited Factory members to exhibit 4 alternative and emerging visions of Immersion. Join us on January 22nd and dive into visual and multimedia environments that are either self-generated from a set of data, driven by the impulse of your heart, composed from the personalities of dozens of strangers or from the surrounding images you are in.
The community of FactoryBerlin is full of hidden art-gems and it is the Artists Circle’s mission to bring you every month 4 artists that will change the way you see Art. The Artists Circle acts as a community-based laboratory for multi-disciplinary art projects empowered by innovation and technology.

Ashley Middleton is a visual artist working in a range of media that includes photography, sculpture, and installation. Her projects are an expression of her ongoing research into the unconscious, its manifestation in human behaviour, and how those behaviours produce and alter, our physical and digital worlds. Her practice contemplates the notion of the self as a microcosm of the cosmos and the evolution of social connectivity in the age of rapid technological advancement. Middleton’s work uses philosophy, science, and empirical research to address the value of the body and it’s symbiotic relation to nature. She will be presenting her most recent work, Rogue, an interactive installation that invites viewers to access their heartbeat by touching the sensors alongside the projector.
Andrés Valencia Téllez is a Software Engineer exploring the intersections between technology and art. After a brief introduction of the world of graphics programming, we will dive with him in his world exploring the interactions between alternative input methods (depth sensors, music instruments, etc.) and simulations of physical phenomena.
Cherie Birkner who is largely known for her expertise in sustainable fashion will be sharing her more artistic photography work with us. To her, photography is an excuse to meet people she finds interesting. One series she will be sharing with us, was when she travelled to New York and held hands with strangers, asking them what they wanted in their life and what they wanted to pass on from their life. She claims it to be a series that is about everything besides the actual photo. Apart from this, she will also share a selection of her all-time favourite photographs.
And our special guest from the Factory Berlin’s Artists Residency Maotik.
French new media artist, the immersive multimedia environments and generative visuals created by Mathieu Le Sourd (Maotik) give a new perspective our Reality at the intersection between art, science and technology. His work has recently been presented in various festivals around the world, such as Mutek Festival, Live Cinema in Rio, Signal Festival in Prague, the British Film Institute in London and ARS Electronica in Linz.
