Hardware Massive, the global ecosystem platform for hardware startups, and Next Big Thing (NBT) AG, the European company builder in IoT and blockchain, are launching the first edition chapter series for Berlin to connect hardware enthusiasts.
With a specialized focus on IoT, hardware and an introduction to blockchain, we invite you to NBT’s new ESD safe electronics lab and technical office. Come get connected with cutting-edge IoT development directly from highly experienced engineering specialists. Understand new advances in NB-IoT, wireless comms, far-field audio, backend SW, PCB technologies, printed electronics, blockchain and more!
There’ll be an opportunity to get hands-on with IoT hardware solutions in a close-knit workshop setting and dive deeper into product development, compatibility, and adoption use cases.
During a set of workshops, participants interact with the NBT tech team, which is made up of multi-disciplinary group of experts. They’ll be available to answer participants’ technical queries and provide useful how-to advice on an individual basis.
Station 1. Hardware M-Gate and LoRa led by David Riding, Senior Hardware Engineer NBT
The M-Gate is a building management gateway design and built to industry standards with the ability to communicate over Mbus Wireless and Wired, PLC, Ethernet and more, delivered on time to leading housing association Degewo. Each M-Gate is working round the clock gathering data from heaters, electrical smart meters, water meters etc, eliminating the need for an army of technicians to travel from house to house manually reading meters over the IR port.Also, The microchip Lora modules will be demoed pinging data back and forth for a P2P range test.
Station 2. particle.io IoT Platform led by Niranjan Rao, Embedded Engineer NBT
Particle.io is an all-in-one IoT platform from device to cloud. It is best-suited for prototyping and their modules can be used in series production. The platform comes with an LTE module and powered by STM32F205 microcontroller, which enables us to connect to the cloud in minutes.
Station 3. Smart Incontinence Care using IoT Solutions led by Pedro Silva, CTO AssistMe
PANNI is a smart diaper which uses state-of-the-art conductive ink printing techniques in a low-power platform using capacitive measurement and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. The data collected is securely transmitted using AWS IoT solutions to the nursing care staff.
Station 4. “Ship-it – One button to deploy them all” led by Parag Majumdar, Senior Full-Stack Engineer NBT
Need a simple webpage hosting with Nginx as the web-server? Need a simple IoT dashboard on AWS? Just press Ship-it. Ship-It is a demonstration of one-click deployment using a hardware button. Once the button is pressed, it triggers a deployment process that sets up the necessary infrastructure needed by a service or a product. The deployment is carried out by custom shell scripts, devops DSLs and third-party APIs.
Station 5. IoT data attestation Application led by Nickolas Butti, Lead Developer Weeve
weeve.network is a technology stack for IoT data providing remote proof of data integrity from an IoT device and the data it produces, using a secure cryptographic testimony.
Once the data is testified, it is transmitted using MQTTS, a lightweight secure transportation protocol to IT-Systems (Cloud or blockchains); the second layer for Weeve provides an infrastructure for building data marketplaces where data can be commercialised.
The session will be capped at 1.5 hours to maximise interactive learning from the workshops.
