+ 5th Floor, Cinema, Factory Berlin Görlitzer Park

For this edition of On The Red Couch powered by Beats by Dr. Dre, world-renowned artist Jen Stark joins us onstage to discuss her vivid technicolor works of art.

From 3D paper sculptures to MTV-featured color wormhole animations, Stark has stunned the world with her complex, kinetic designs that place viewers on “the razor’s edge of optical seduction and perceptual engagement.”

Inspired by designs in nature, fractals, sacred geometry, color, the mysteries in our natural environment, Stark invites us into a direct dialogue with the natural world and its mysteries.

Join us as Artist in Residence program alumni, Tabitha Swanson moderates a conversation on the inspiration behind Jen Stark's work, and her experiences executing her projects across mediums and around the world.

As a hybrid event some members will be able to join the event in-person in our Cinema at Factory Berlin Görlitzer Park. Please note that due to limited capacity guests wishing to attend offline must register for the appropriate ticket.

On The Red Couch is powered by Beats by Dr. Dre.

Jen Stark’s art is driven by her interest in conceptualizing visual systems to simulate plant growth, evolution, infinity, fractals, mimetic topographies, and sacred geometries. Using available materials—paper, wood, metal, paint—Stark strives to make work that balances on a razor’s edge of optical seduction and perceptual engagement.

The resulting works often resemble organic, molecular, cloud-like structures, and are imbued with kinetic, undulating effects that serve to dislocate the viewer from staid reality into an immersive ecosphere of echoing patterns and the implausible designs found in nature.

Stark was born in Miami, Florida in 1983, and studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art, graduating in 2005. Since then, Stark has realized exhibitions globally, with major shows in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Thailand, and Canada. Her work is in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the West Collection, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale and MOCA Miami, among others.

Stark lives and works in Los Angeles.

The event moderator, Tabitha Swanson, appears as a specimen of an online race. A designer and creative technologist using 3D rendering, AR face filters and sometimes synthetic makeup on her own body, she offers the vision of a migrant from a virtual world.
