Created in collaboration with fashion designer Barbara Sanchez-Kane, the coat merges conceptual art, fashion, and function. Devices and radio-frequency identification sealed in the dark pockets are unable to be reached, tracked, traced, hacked, nor monitored. For this exhibition, Ti and Catherine collaborated with fellow artists-in-residence and Berlin-based artists to translate the coat into other outputs, culminating in an environmental tapestry around the state of privacy. They worked with Evelyn Bencicova on a photography series, and created a short film with Mishka Kornai. An AR filter by Aaron Jablonski is discoverable in the space, which is also used in the film. These works demonstrate the coat’s capability to withdraw the wearer’s identity. The exhibition score includes pieces and a combination of music by Amon Tobin, Tony Cruise, with words written/performed by Cruise entitled Privacy is Fake Now. During this rapid-fire pitching session to a curated panel of investors, each founder has 5 minutes to pitch their final projects and answer questions from our expert jury. In a keynote during our last Stealth Mode Demo Day, we learned from Alex Hirschfield from Bundesverband Deutsche Startups that “56.7% of the women-led startups […] state that they have difficulties in gaining access to either male or female investors and their network.” So, how do founders get connected to investors? What kinds of investment models should founders consider? Our jury of investors and experienced startup founders kick off the evening with a panel discussion on how every founder can find investors, make their pitch and ultimately win investment. 14	15 13:00 By Appointment Only: Dark Spring @ Factory Berlin Görlitzer Park By Appointment Only: Dark Spring When Dec 15th 2020 13:00 – Dec 16th 2020 18:00 + Google Calendar + iCal Export Where Factory Berlin Görlitzer Park 360 XR Room Dark Spring by Tony Cruise from the Factory Berlin x Sónar+D Artist in Residence program supported by Beats by Dr. Dre. In collaboration with Rachel Crane. American sound artist Tony Cruise presents ‘Dark Spring (2021)’, a garment collection and sound sculpture. Created in collaboration with fashion designer Rachel Crane, the exhibition merges sustainable fashion with generative sonification to convey the positioning of clothing as an evolving musical composition. Bluetooth (BLE) Beacons typically used in retail for proximity-based marketing are affixed beneath the garments, advertising their position to a patch capable of generative synthesis. For this exhibition, Crane and Cruise embraced “wildly inaccurate” and “easily diffused” signals as framework for composition - seeking not to make a thing even, neat or pretty. BLE works independent of an internet connection; thus considering surveillance capitalism manifest through marketing and the ways sound and music are ‘sensibly’ employed in runway and retail contexts. The painstakingly handmade garments and nuanced sound in ‘Dark Spring’ represent a division from the hegemony necessitated by capitalism. The dolls on which Crane’s garments appear represent an inclusive ideal in the fashion industry and coincidental attribute to early 20th century German artist Hans Bellmer. In isolation, Bellmer constructed and photographed a series of dolls in the forests of Germany. His bizarre, contorted, meat-like pieces opposed the cult of the perfect body and forebode his expulsion from Germany for the construction of ‘degenerate’ art.
